How to check a print proof: a 10-point checklist

The proof is your last chance to catch mistakes. Use this simple checklist for names, numbers, spelling, colours, margins and quantity before you approve.

Once you approve a proof, the job goes for printing exactly as shown. A wrong digit in a phone number on 2,000 pamphlets is an expensive mistake, so take five minutes with this checklist.

  1. Read every phone number digit by digit, and call it if you can.
  2. Check names and spellings, especially in Hindi or other languages.
  3. Check the email, website and social handles.
  4. Check the address and PIN code.
  5. Check prices, offers and dates.
  6. Make sure the logo is the latest version and looks sharp.
  7. Look at the edges: nothing important should be close to them.
  8. Check the back side too if it is printed on both sides.
  9. Confirm the size, paper and quantity are what you ordered.
  10. Ask someone else to read it once. Fresh eyes catch more.
